“Where the Quiet Stays” – Approaches to a State
May 10, 2026
Author: Thomas Alexander Kolbe
With “Where the Quiet Stays”, which will be released on May 22, 2026, I introduce a piece that does not unfold through its form or structure, but through the way one encounters it.
I cannot speak about it without leaving open what may arise while listening. “Where the Quiet Stays” does not impose a fixed meaning – much of it only takes shape through direct engagement.
Finding inner calm is inherently valuable – for me as well. At the same time, I have often noticed how quickly this very goal turns into something to be achieved, held onto, or controlled. At that point, perception shifts – calm begins to feel like something external.
At the same time, there were moments when that movement simply fell away – not because I had found anything, but because the act of searching itself no longer played a role. That experience became decisive for me.
“Where the Quiet Stays” grew out of that.
I shaped the music in a way that opens space rather than moving toward a goal. The track remains rooted in A minor and unfolds through slow, steady motion. There are no marked peaks, but a continuous presence in which change reveals itself more in detail than in form.
A constant pulse is present – but not as something that moves into the foreground. It provides orientation without directing perception. The music carries, without steering.
My voice plays a central role. It is not an added element, but directly connected to what is expressed in the text. The vocal stays in a low register, calmly delivered, without large dynamic shifts – yet it follows the emotional contours within the lines. I am not trying to emphasize or shape anything. It emerges from what is present in that moment.
While writing the lyrics, I was not aiming to define or explain anything. I described what I perceived without extending or interpreting it further. Some lines are very concrete, others remain more open – this openness is not a concept, but a result of how I work.
What emerges while listening is no longer in my hands.
For me, the title “Where the Quiet Stays” does not refer to a place that needs to be reached. It is a perspective on something that is already there – regardless of whether it is named or not.
The visual aspect follows the same approach. I chose not to place myself at the center. The figure is part of the space, not its focus. It does not stand for something, it does not explain anything. It is simply there – like the path, the light, the surroundings.
The subtle orientation toward a Japanese-influenced aesthetic arises from this reduction – fewer elements, less emphasis, more space. At the same time, I did not want to move into stylization. No symbolism that defines anything, but an open scene that can be read, but does not have to be.
“Where the Quiet Stays” is a piece that takes its time and leaves space. It does not unfold through contrast, but through perception.
What comes from it no longer develops from my perspective.
I can describe where the piece comes from and how I worked with it – the understanding itself only emerges in listening.
“Where the Quiet Stays” will be released on May 22, 2026 on all major platforms.
Lyrics
[Extended Instrumental Intro]
mmm…
ah…
[Verse 1]
I came here just to clear my mind
To leave the noise I carried behind
No sacred place, no grand design
Just trees and air and passing time
The light was low, the ground was still
A narrow path beyond the hill
And step by step, without a plan
I felt the weight slip from my hands
[Adlib]
ah… let it fall…
[Verse 2]
No voices called, no signs appeared
No sudden truth, no thing revered
But something changed in how I stayed
In how I listened, how I moved, how I breathed
The wind went through the silent pines
Not speaking words, but drawing lines
Between what I thought I had to be
And what was left when I was free
[Pre-Chorus]
And I noticed in the space between each breath
There was nothing there to fear or to protect
No demand to hold, no need to prove
Just something steady I could move into
[Chorus]
We don’t need another world unseen
No hidden door, no in-between
Just this moment, clear and plain
Where nothing’s lost and nothing’s gained
Hold me where the quiet stays
Not beyond, but in these days
In the place we almost missed
Because we thought there had to be more than this
[Adlibs]
ah… right here…
stay… stay…
[Instrumental Interlude]
mmm… ah…
[Verse 3]
I used to search for something more
A deeper truth, a hidden door
Something vast, beyond my reach
A silent voice that I could teach
But every time I thought I knew
It slipped away, it never grew
Until I stopped and let things be
And saw it wasn’t hiding from me
[Bridge]
No myth to follow
No mystery to solve
Just the way things are
When nothing is forced
[Final Chorus]
We don’t need another world unseen
No hidden truth behind a screen
Just this moment, slow and deep
Where everything we are can rest and breathe
[Outro]
mmm…
ah…
…still
