The End – A Personal Farewell

July 18, 2026

Author: Thomas Alexander Kolbe

Over the past years, I have had the privilege of following many different paths. As a musician, composer, and producer, I was able to release music that reached people at different stages of their lives. Streaming numbers and financial success never mattered to me. Everything I created came from the heart.

Alongside my music, I wrote a number of essays and devoted myself to music history, music psychology, and cultural studies. I spent countless hours in archives and libraries, expanding my knowledge and sharing it with others.

All of this has been an important part of my life and who I am.

The past few weeks have made one thing unmistakably clear: my health now places limits on me that I have to accept. After giving it careful thought, I have made the decision to bring all of my creative and academic work to an end.

This means that I will no longer release new music. I will no longer write essays, pursue musicological research, or begin any further publications or research projects.

This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. Those who know me understand how much joy music and academic work have brought me. I found what I had been searching for. That makes this step all the more difficult. At the same time, I know that my health has to come first from now on.

I would like to thank everyone who has stood by me, especially in recent times, even as it became clear that I was gradually losing strength. Thank you to everyone who listened to my music, to the readers of my essays, to my colleagues, and to everyone who supported my work or simply took an interest in it. Every encounter, every message, and every conversation has meant a great deal to me.

My existing releases and writings will remain as a record of an important chapter of my life. They reflect many years of creative work, curiosity, and my desire not only to create music but also to understand it and document its history.

There are still two final releases scheduled for this year (2026): the single What Tomorrow Is on August 28, 2026, and 君はずっと探してた光 (You Are the Light) (featuring Aina Agena) on September 25, 2026. After that, my work will come to a definitive close.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your support – especially throughout these past months.
