通过《Dancing in a Waking Dream》，Thomas Alexander Kolbe 在其艺术创作中开启了新的篇章。这也是他首次将由本人亲自演唱的作品纳入其创作体系之中，为音乐增添了更为直接且更具个人性的表达维度。

《Dancing in a Waking Dream》并不是从一个清晰的想法开始的。它更像是一种我不断回到的感受，有时一开始甚至没有察觉到它的存在。这样的状态往往出现在安静的情境中——行走时、静坐时，或者只是没有任何特定目的地倾听时。在某个时刻，感知会发生变化。不是突然的，也不是那种需要刻意关注的变化，而是细微到让原本区分“内在”和“外在”的边界逐渐变得模糊。
我对这种状态很熟悉。它既不是睡眠，也不是通常意义上的清醒。更像是稍微站在自己的思绪之后，同时又完全处在当下。声音似乎更近，空间显得更深。时间被轻微地拉长，刚好让一切在没有压力的情况下自然展开。
开头歌词中的海岸线并不仅仅是一个物理空间。对我来说，它更像是一道临界线，一个事物不再清晰分隔的点。海洋、森林，以及另一个人的存在——这一切开始以一种并非人为构造、而是自然存在的方式彼此连结。
与另一个人一起在那里行走，会增加一层难以在不简化的前提下说明的体验。那是一种不依赖对话或定义的亲近感。你能够感知对方，但这种感知不会带来紧张。更像是在同一个场域中一起移动。存在是被共享的，而不是通过协商建立的。
当我写下“Your hand in mine, a quiet symmetry”时，它正是来源于这样的体验。不是比喻，而是一种直接的观察。在这样的时刻，存在着一种不需要刻意维持的平衡，它会自行维系。
第一段后半部分的森林同样不仅仅是一个意象。我一直将森林视为一种几乎会立即改变感知的场所。声音的回响、空间的密度、光线的流动——这些都会影响人如何倾听、如何思考。人会更容易注意到细微之处，同时整体的关联也会变得更加清晰。
“Kami”这一概念是在没有太多思考的情况下进入文本的。我并不是刻意决定要写入它，而是这个词恰好描述了一种我持续体验到的感受。它不是一种信仰，而更像是一种感知方式——一种意识：存在并不局限于可见或可测量的事物，而某些地方仿佛自带一种关注或气息。
在这首作品中，我并不打算对它加以定义。我希望它保持开放。Kami 不是角色，也不是会主动做出行为的存在。它们只是存在于那里，而正因为如此，整个情境的感知方式也随之改变。
音乐结构与这种体验紧密对应。延展的前奏对我来说非常重要。我需要那段时间。如果缺少它，后面的部分会失去支撑。在创作这类作品时，我往往会在前奏阶段停留很久，然后才让节奏进入。这更像是一种与氛围对齐的过程，而不是过快地去构建它。
当节拍最终出现时，我并不把它视为一种“加入”。它更像是某种原本就存在、只是还不明确的东西的延续。运动开始变得可听见，但它其实早已隐含其中。
亲自录制人声也让创作过程发生了明显变化。当你自己去演唱这些句子时，会产生另一种责任感。你无法与它们保持距离。我发现自己需要做的是减少，而不是增加。任何过度的表达都会显得不合适。声音需要与音色与空间处在同一层，而不是凌驾其上。
第二段稍微向内收拢。寺庙、灯笼，以及改变的时间感，都与一种外在结构不再重要的体验相关。在这种状态中，时间不再是被测量的，而是被经历的。
整首作品中也贯穿着一种安静的“记忆感”。这并不是叙事性的记忆，而更像是碎片。那些无法完全归属于某个具体时刻的印象。当我写下“Every memory feels borrowed now”时，是在表达一种感觉：某些经验并不完全属于自己，仿佛它们只是经过你，而不是被你所储存。
Bridge 可能是整首作品中最为直接、最无遮蔽的部分。那里出现的是我自己也无法回答的问题。我保留它们原本的状态，因为一旦给出答案，它们就会被缩减。“Are we shadows in another life”并不是在表达某种结论，它只是那种状态中自然浮现的问题。
“Stay… stay… Don’t wake yet…”是我在类似时刻中反复出现的念头。总会有一个瞬间，你意识到这种状态正在消退。然后会出现一个短暂的尝试，想要停留在其中，尽管你知道它无法被 удерж住。
在最后一部分，并不是通过增加元素来扩展，而更像是视角的展开。个人的部分逐渐溶解为某种更难以界定的状态。连接、记忆与存在不再是孤立的事件，而是更大连续性的一部分。我们并不总是能意识到这一点，但偶尔会触及它。
当音乐逐渐淡出时，我希望它带来的不是结束的感觉，而更像是从那种状态中轻轻退出。最后的海浪声也不是终点，更像是回到在作品开始之前就已经存在的某种状态。
这首作品与我所经历的某些感知时刻非常接近。它并不是对这些体验的诠释，而是尽可能贴近它们本身的一种尝试。
